In this dismal portrayal of a motionless child that looks like as if it was peeking over a computer monitor’s screen, the artist recreates the clichéd ideology of the children being our future in a grim, yet lively presentation. If the painting is to be studied closely, it is highly noticeable that game pad controllers appear mirrored in the model’s iris. According to Young, our present children’s neglected, soulless eyes somehow startle us with the bleakness of their vision. And if life and evolution was a game, then the painting’s title; “Game Over” simply connotes that the ‘game’ has already been lost.
