As one of her friends advised her to loosen up on the subject matter, the artist decided to create a whimsical depiction of Clara, a local Carabao at the farm she’s painting at, jumping over the moon in a sky of intricately embroidered, starlit patterns. This work was inspired by the widely known Mother Goose rhyme “Hey Diddle Diddle”, in where a cow has jumped over the moon. According to Rodriguez, she wanted to generate a newfangled approach embedded with a distinct touch of Filipino style, so she replaced the image cow with a carabao. This painting’s certain feel of nursery ambiguity brings it closer to the artist’s series of exploring the uncharted world of dreams. Because only in dreams can we encounter that certain reconstruction of images that are too far from the clutches of our own logic reason. Meaning almost nothing that it means so much in such points of allegorical understanding.
